LMK for Canvas — Privacy Policy

LMK for Canvas is a browser extension that reads your own Canvas assignments and feeds them into LMK, your personal assignment planner. This page explains exactly what it reads, where that data goes, and what it never does.

What the extension reads

• Your Canvas course and assignment data: course names, assignment titles, due dates, points, submission state, scores, and the time Canvas recorded on your quiz attempts. It reads this through Canvas's own API using the login session already in your browser. It never sees or stores your password.
• Time you spend working: while a Canvas assignment page, its quiz, or the external course tool you launched from it (for example MyEducator or Edfinity) is visible and you are active, the extension counts minutes toward that assignment. It records only a minute tally per assignment. It does not record what you type, read, or click.

Where the data goes

• Everything the extension collects is stored in your own browser (extension storage) and handed to the LMK page when you open it.
• By default, everything stays on the device you are using. Nothing is uploaded.
• If you choose to sign in with Google, LMK saves your data as a file named LMK-data.json in your own Google Drive so your phone and laptop stay in sync. LMK uses Google's drive.file permission, which lets it see only the one file it created — it can never read anything else in your Drive. Delete that file, or revoke LMK's access in your Google account, and the synced copy is gone.
• LMK shares anonymous course statistics with other LMK users: an assignment's Canvas ID, a median number of minutes, and a type vote (for example "done in class"). This never includes your name, your scores, your grades, or which assignments you completed. These statistics exist so that every student's time estimates improve.

What it never does

• It never sends your data to the extension's developers or to any advertising or analytics service.
• It never sells, rents, or shares personal information with anyone.
• It never changes anything in Canvas. It only reads.
• It never runs on sites other than Canvas, the course tools listed in its permissions, and the LMK page itself.

Permissions, and why

• storage: to keep the collected assignment data and minute tallies in your browser between visits.
• Canvas hosts: to read your assignments through Canvas's API and to time work on assignment pages.
• Course tool hosts (MyEducator, Edfinity, McGraw-Hill Connect, Macmillan, Pearson, Cengage, zyBooks, WebAssign): to time work you do there after launching from a Canvas assignment.
• claude.ai hosts: to deliver the collected data to the LMK page, which runs there.

What LMK counts

To know whether anyone uses it, the LMK web app sends three plain numbers to a server run by LMK: one open per device per day, one install the first time a device opens the app, and one first sync the first time Canvas data arrives. That is the whole message: an event name and the date. No identifier, no cookie, no IP address is stored, so a count can never be traced back to a person. Inside claude.ai this counter is off entirely. The app also fetches one small settings file from the same server when it opens, holding an announcement and the store link; that request carries nothing about you.

The extension's morning notification is built on your own computer from the plan the LMK page already showed you. Nothing about it is sent anywhere.

Deleting your data

Removing the extension deletes everything it stored in your browser. Deleting the file named LMK-data.json from your Google Drive removes your synced LMK data. Anonymous course statistics cannot be traced back to you and are not deleted individually.
